Suvorov Historical Museum in Izmail
Suvorov Historical Museum in Izmail is one of five Suvorov museums operating in the territory of the CIS countries and is a unique museum of military history in the Odessa region. In the fortieth years of the XXth century, the museum changed location several times. Today it occupies one of the most beautiful buildings in the city center of Izmail - an ancient private residence once the home of merchant and Mayor I.I. Avraamov. The building is an architectural monument from the end of the XIXth century.
After a magnificent capital restoration, Suvorov museum opened again on October 4, 2009. The architectural design of the museum exhibitions is the work of the nationally renowned Ukrainian artist    A.V. Gajdamaka.  Exhibition displays include regimental collections and equipment of the Russian, Austrian and French armies; fire-arms, banners of the Russian and the Turkish armies of the XVII-XVIII centuries; treasures of Turkish coins; battle-paintings by Jacques Courtois - the French artist of the XVII century and the masters of M.B. Grekov military Studio (Moscow); and rare books.
This combination of history and modern times is seen in original exhibits from the XVII-XIХ centuries and via technical innovations of the XX-XXI centuries reflecting an atmosphere of West European military history of the second half of the XVIII century.
The updated exhibitions of the museum are devoted to the life and activity of the outstanding commander, Alexander Vasilevich Suvorov:  to the childhood and youth of the future generalissimo, to his participation in the Seven-Year War (1756-1763), to the Russo-Turkish wars of last quarter of the XVIII century, and to the Italian and Swiss campaigns of 1799.
A separate block of materials is devoted the Black Sea Cossack army and their role in the capture of the fortress Izmail in 1790.
Besides these traditional exhibits, an exhibition is presented of texts of letters written by A.V. Suvorov. They provide insight into the character of the commander, whose heart was not hardened by the horrors of war.
Also exhibited are engravings by Suvorov on the themes of the Ukrainian poet and artist T.G. Shevchenko. For many decades the museum has been devoted to the memory of the legendary commander A.V. Suvorov in Ukraine and the world creating an important symbol of our city.
